Michelle Wie Accepts Sponsors Exemption To Ginn Tribute

Tuesday 24 April 2007 @ 11:24 am

Michelle Wie just accepted a sponsors exemption to play in the LPGA tour event, The Ginn Tribute, hosted by Annika Sorenstam. Michelle, who recently turned down a sponsors expemtion, will most likely be cleared by doctors to play in next months event.

She has been out of play since the Sony Open where she played poorly and then hurt her wrist the following month.

The tournament, which is scheduled to start on May 28th, will be Michelle Wie’s first LPGA event this year. She’s currently finishing up her final year at Punahou High School in Hawaii before she attends Stanford in the fall.

Michelle Wie’s Work Ethic Surprises Annika Sorenstam

Tuesday 27 March 2007 @ 4:02 pm

Michelle Wie, who will miss the first LPGA major of the year is known to have a very strong work ethic. Driven by herself and her parents, she’s constantly working to better her golf game.

We found this article interesting along with the quote from fellow LPGA golf star Annika Sorenstam. It’s about the upcomming tourney that Annika is no doubt gunning for the win and is the favorite since she is the world’s number one.

But the article quoted Annika talking about Michelle Wie and when she saw Michelle walking to work on her golf game with David Leadbetter in Florida. The funny thing was, it was the day before Christmas and she was working on her game.

Now I’m not sure why this was so amazing, most of America works the day before Christmas, and in reality, this is Michelle Wie’s job. But it was interesting none-the-less that Annika would be commenting on Michelle Wie.

Annika Sorenstam was in Florida washing her car when she noticed a familiar face walking along the street, golf clubs on her shoulder.

It was Michelle Wie, on her way to work on her game with coach David Leadbetter. Nothing particularly strange about that, of course, except that this was December 24.

“Which is weirder, me washing my car on Christmas Eve or her practising on Christmas Eve?” Sorenstam asked herself.

TheĀ  has put together a great photo gallery in their special Michelle Wie section of their online newspaper.

The gallery chronicals Michelle Wie’s years before she turned pro with local photographs taken by Hawaii local photographers.

The section starts at Age 10 when she shot a 9-under par 64 at her home course of Olomana, a shor 5,400 yard course. To when she was 15 and finished second to Annika Sorenstam in the LPGA Championship. This gallery has pictures of Michelle Wie from those years as well as all years in between.

Michelle Wie still Holding her Ground, or dust?

Saturday 14 October 2006 @ 8:50 am

Michelle Wie, seen here hitting from the desert surrounding the Bighorn Golf Club, is trying to make things happen to stay in contention at the Samsung World Championships.

After carding a quadruple bogey 8 on Thursday as well as and eagle to finish with only a 74 Michelle Wie came back on Friday to score an even par 72. She began the round with an early double that left her in a hole she needed to dig herself out of.

In an interview after the round Michelle said she felt as though she played a lot better than her score led on due to that early bogey. She’ll definitely be looking to keep that momentum going heading into the third round today.

Michelle Wie is busy chasing leaders Annika Sorenstam, Paula Creamer and Sophie Gustafson who all sit at 6 under.

Is Michelle Wie Damaging Women’s Golf?

Thursday 21 September 2006 @ 12:47 pm

In a recent article published on theage.com.au comments from Australian Ladies Professional Golf general manager, Warren Sevil, put up some really good arguments as to why MIchelle Wie is doing more harm than good to the LPGA tour.

Although I believe she does have the talent to one day compete on the men’s tour Sevil makes several statements that have to be given thought. For one she brings up the fact that Michelle Wie could do for women’s golf what Tiger Woods did for men’s golf, or the PGA.

Tiger Woods splashed onto the scene a young talented kid out to change golf and bring some pizazz to the game. It was during a time when men’s golf was hurting for money, and hurting for participants!

With women’s golf building momentum and becomming more and more in favor with the fans all it needs is a young fresh lady to dominate the game and dazzle the crowd with her amazing shots. Sure there’s Annika and Gulbis, but Gulbis doesn’t have all the shots and certainly not the power that MIchelle has, and Annika is becomming old hat.

If MIchelle could focus on the LPGA she could bring the tournament and the players millions more fans, not to mention the money.

As Sevil points out which I agree with,

“in the last month, with what she has done, it’s only the
tournament sponsors who are benefiting and you can’t really blame
them for wanting her to play in their events. They don’t have Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson playing in their
events so Michelle generates a lot of media for them.”

Although she has to do what’s best for herself, this is just another article that brings up points about another route to take to get to those results.

Either way the controversy continues and Michelle Wie will keep on making headlines. Good and Bad.
