Michelle Wie Turns Down Sponsors Exemption

We just heard that Michelle Wie was offered a Sponsors Exemption for the first LPGA event after the LPGA major just played the last weekend. She then proceeded to turn down the exemption for the Ginn Open to be played in Orlando, Florida.

Michelle Wie recently dropped out of that first tournament and although no one has gotten a definitive word on why she’s missing this golf tournament, we can only speculate that it’s because of that wrist.

We’re unsure when her first tournament will be this year on the LPGA, but we hope it’s soon. Things are getting a little dry around here and the web for the matter. No Michelle Wie news makes us wonder what to write about.

Of course she’s injured. Has Michelle ever turned down a sponsor’s exemption – and then failed to win?

    The answer is no.

The real reason Michelle has been AWOL the last few months isn’t because of her wrist (a very convenient alibi). It’s because of her weight! Like many girls in their teenage years Michelle experienced a late growth spurt, but this one was the wide type not the vertical one. As a former high school coach I can tell you that is always an uncomfortable time for the average teenage girl who is NOT in the public eye. Add about a million or so viewers to the mix and it becomes down right embarassing. You can’t do many model shoots or commercial ads when your face is balloning the way her’s has over the last 5 months. I live right here in Oahu and I see her every week when she is practicing at my home course. The poor girl needs time to adjust to her new body, not to mention a whole new wardrobe…
